One of the Largest Ski Resorts in the United States

One of the resort’s defining features is its massive size! Did you know that Big Sky Resort has more skiable acres than any resort in the entire state of Colorado?

It is truly one of the largest ski resorts in North America with over 5,800 acres of skiable terrain! With this much mountain to explore, it’s impossible to ski all of the resort in a single visit and one of the reasons many guests return to Big Sky year after year.

A Wide Variety of Terrain

The resort offers many types of runs that will please skiers of all abilities, from first-timers to expert all-mountain skiers. Choose from beginner greens to expert double blacks and everything in between. Big Sky Resort’s difficulty breakdown is 15% beginner, 25% intermediate, 42% advanced, and 18% expert.

While catering to skiers of all abilities, Big Sky’s advanced and expert terrain is noted for being particularly loved by experienced skiers. If you have advanced skiers in your group, we recommend sticking together for a couple runs in the morning, then letting them explore some of this incredible terrain on their own. Meet for lunch at one of the many locations on the mountain or in the Mountain Village!

Thriving Mountain Village

Located at the bottom of the Ramcharger 8, Swift Current 4, and Explorer 2 lifts, the Mountain Village is centrally located and offers a number of restaurant options that are perfect for a mid-day meal or après-ski.

The Big Sky Mountain Village also offers many shopping opportunities. Whether you need to rent gear, buy lift tickets, or grab a quick bite to eat, you’ll find everything you need here!

Most Advanced Chairlift in the World

The “Ramcharger 8” was installed at Big Sky Resort in 2018 and is famous for not only being the first 8-person capacity lift to be installed in North America, but also including many other rare technological features such as a high definition video display and heated seats. This lift takes guests up Andesite mountain and serves beginner, intermediate, and advanced runs.

Perhaps most exciting are the resort’s future plans for this lift, which include adding 8-person gondola cabins, some of which will have a table allowing guests to enjoy a meal. This will be one of the most unique resort experiences anywhere in the United States!

Scenic Location Near Bozeman

Big Sky Resort is located 50 miles south of Bozeman on the slopes around Lone Mountain, adjacent to the scenic town of Big Sky. The best way to get to the resort is by taking a direct flight to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, renting a car, and driving to the resort.

Because Bozeman is relatively close, the drive usually takes about an hour. Since Bozeman is within driving distance, some of our guests book a stay at our Bozeman vacation rentals and drive to Big Sky Resort for a day of skiing.

Transportation and Parking

The resort also offers free and paid parking options, however, we highly recommend utilizing the Skyline shuttle service. This will make your day much more enjoyable and will save you the hassle of fighting for a parking spot on those busy days!
