Whitefish Lake

Whitefish Lake

Whitefish Lake sits nestled at the edge of beautiful Whitefish, MT where you can swim, boat, paddleboard, fish and so much more! It’s one of our favorite summer destinations in the Flathead Valley. Whitefish Lake can be accessed in a few different ways.

Looking for a place to stay? We offer a variety of vacation rentals all around Whitefish, whether you’re looking for a penthouse within walking distance to town (and the lake!), a large luxury property on Whitefish Mountain, or a cabin in the woods outside of Whitefish, you’re sure to find your perfect property with Stay Montana. You’ll even receive our family recipe, “Ella Cookies,” at check-in!

City Beach:

The City Beach offers a roped-off swimming area, a nice grassy area with places to sit like picnic tables and gazebos, and a sandy beach (something that’s hard to come by in Montana!) The shallow depths make the City Beach a great option for families with small children. It’s shallow for quite a while before it deepens for more advanced swimmers. Canoes, kayaks and other items can be rented for recreation. Plus, there’s a snack bar with the local’s favorite ice cream AND a lifeguard on duty, ensuring your safety!

Les Mason Park:

Les Mason Park is a state park located on the northeast edge of Whitefish Lake. It’s a bit quieter and more serene than the more lively City Beach. It can be accessed by a short trail that leads down to a gravel beach where there’s a roped-off swimming area and a dock you can cannonball off of! The lake is a bit deeper here in spots, so it’s better for a little more advanced swimmers. Bring lunch and have a picnic on the picnic tables! There is also a dog-friendly area of the beach, a paved walkway for wheelchair, stroller, etc. easy access, and a seasonal place to rent water recreation equipment.

Whitefish Lake State Park:

This smaller state park has camping sites that sit along the beach, as well as a boat launch and swimming for all! This is the perfect place to take your boat out for the day, have a picnic, or let the kids wade in the shallow water.
