Winter Things to do in the Flathead Valley, Montana
The Flathead Valley is located in Northwestern Montana and is a sought after year-round destination. From small charming towns such as Bigfork, Kalispell, Whitefish, Lakeside and Columbia Falls, to infinite winter and summer activities – there’s something for everyone! Whitefish, Montana is not to be missed. It’s the perfect destination for skiers and snowboarders. Whitefish Mountain Resort is typically open for ski season from mid-December to mid-April. They have everything from beginner lessons to more advanced night skiing! Make sure and visit the lodge for a warm drink after skiing this big snowy mountain.
Blacktail Mountain Ski Area is another popular ski spot located in Lakeside, Montana. Lakeside is south of Kalispell on Highway 93.
Another fun winter sport that you may not have heard of before is fat tire biking! Glacier Cyclery & Nordic offers winter bikes rentals to get you out on the trails even on the snowiest of days! (They also do nordic ski rentals!)
Glacier National Park is a fan favorite in the summer, but did you know that you can visit in the winter? Pack your snowshoes or cross country skis and visit Glacier for a magical, winter wonderland. Just make sure to pack warm and don’t forget your mittens! You might even spot a moose or two – how cool!
Along with lots of outdoor activities to choose from, Whitefish offers a variety of winter events including the Winter Carnival, the Christmas Stroll, and the annual Skijoring! If you’ve never heard of skijoring, it’s when a skier or snowboarder is pulled behind a horse. It’s super fun and unique! All of these events are fantastic opportunities to check out local businesses! In 2021, we sponsored Turkey Bowling at the Christmas Stroll and it was a hit with the kids! You’ll find fun for the whole family in Whitefish!
